Club’s Ramadan program also includes a blitz team event and other religious and cultural activities
Dubai Chess and Culture Club has announced a series of activities that will be held to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan. According to Jamal Al Abdooli, General Secretary of the club, it has been the club’s tradition to host various chess competitions as well as religious and cultural activities that are open to members and guests during Ramadan.
The Ramadan program will kick off with the 12th Allegiance to Zayed Chess Tournament, which will be held June 21-25 at the club’s Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Hall. The annual tournament, which is now on its 12th year, is also being organized in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding President of the UAE.
Regarded as one of the UAE’s most awaited calendared events during Ramadan, the Allegiance to Zayed Chess Tournament is open to all nationalities. Najib Mohammed Saleh, Technical & Coaching Director, explained that the event regularly attracts the best players in the UAE as well as a few titled players from other countries, giving the club’s students an opportunity to test their skills in a high-level competition.
Saleh said the club will also host other chess competitions that are aimed to encourage participation at the community level, including a blitz team tournament that is open to various community groups, chess clubs, companies and other private and government entities. The blitz team tournament is also one of the regular events organized by the club during Ramadan.
The club is also organizing various religious and cultural activities, including an iftar with club members, students, parents, guests and staff. Friendly competitions in billiards, table tennis and other games are also being organized throughout the holy month.
